Don't pay $$ for a kindle case when you can make your own!

If you love reading then you will have already heard of the Amazon Kindle. The Kindle is an electronic e-reader that allows you store thousands of books and lets you read them anywhere!

When i first got my kindle i was a bit miffed with the case that came with it. The stock Kindle case is awful - i often found my Kindle slipping out and it was already starting to get scratches. I decided to check on Amazon for some commerical cases but was saddened to find that the decent looking ones cost upwards of $60. I am not rich and could only just about afford my Kindle. I then decided to create my own Kindle case from household objects.

This hub will detail Kindle cases that i and others have built and i hope it will be a great help for others looking to build a kindle case for free.

Book inspired Kindle Case

1. Wrapping Paper Kindle Case

This kindle use wrapping paper left from a birthday and is wrapped around an old leather book to create a really attractive looking case. What i like about case is that you can also reuse the wrapping paper to create a custom slip case that matches.

Turn old jeans into a case

These jeans work as a great protective cover for a kindle.

2. Denim Cover

This denim kindle cover offers great protection for the 6 inch version kindle and also looks great. Most people have a few spares of old jeans lying around so why not give it a try?

I like that the pocked on the jeans still provides functionality - so you can keep headphones or other small gadget tucked away.

3. Book Kindle Case

With this kindle case - strangers will think your reading an ancient book rather than a electronic gadget. This kindle case was created by a kindle forum user and they actually handmade every aspect of this awesome leather case.

An easier method would be to find an old book and cute a kindle shaped hole inside it.

Use some old fabric

4. Made from Old Fabric

This kindle cover was created using some old fabric - basic sewing supplies and an iron. This kind of cover is one of the cheapest possible and most people should be able to easily create one.

To add a bit of luxury you could choose to use luxury fabric or add tassles to the spine! :)

Using an old math book!

5. Use A Book

This is the easiest way to proect your Kindle!

  • All you need is a hardback book - leather if you want it look awesome.
  • Open up to were you want your Kindle to site.
  • Next stick together the pages behind where the kindle will site
  • Use a knife to cute out a kindle shaped hole
  • Voilar! Your Kindle case is complete

I reccomend this method but make sure you only cut up old books that no one wants to read! Otherwise your just wasting a good book and as readers you know thats bad :(

Anyway i hope this has been helpful. Feel free to leave your own ideas/creations in the comments box below. If you want to read a hub about the pricier kindle cases on the market then i reccomend Bjaost's great little hub.

Just got a Kindle, and they really are rather good. But, it really needs a case. Now, where can I find one?

Love my new Kindle (thinner, ligher), but not too crazy about making my own cover.

I purchased a sleeve for only $7.95 with free shipping from the folks at www.Nuvo-Tek.com. Good quality (better than I expected), fast shipping (got 3 days after ordering) and a low price.

On the other hand, the covers here are very unique.

Hi Robin,

Can the sleeve case be used to read on kindle?
